After a childhood immersed in wellness education with my mother, Shari Sunshine, who founded the Jerusalem Center for Healing Arts, Ashland Massage Institute, and Syntropy International, I began as a formal apprentice to Shari in 1995. Shari developed Syntropy Insight Bodywork after her apprenticeships with Shlomo Efrat, Moshe Feldenkrais’ apprentice in Israel, Arthur Pauls, the founder of Ortho-Bionomy®, and Pierre Pannetier, pioneer in Polarity Therapy. In turn, I founded the Arcata School of Massage in 2004 and spent fourteen years teaching and learning there. It was through teaching that I developed Middleway Method Somatic Education as a way to focus on the essence of neuromuscular repatterning and self-directed wellness.

In 2002, I was hit by a car as a pedestrian. Because of nerve damage, I was unable to walk for seven months. Applying all of the lessons from my work as a Somatic Educator, and learning every day for the past 20 years, I teach from the direct experience of severe injury and non-surgical rehabilitation.
